Berkshire

From MaxTravelz

Berkshire is a county in the South East region of England, located immediately to the west of London. Whilst its proximity to that city, and its own centers of commerce, ensure a large and affluent population, Berkshire still possesses much rural scenery, including long stretches of the River Thames. A visit to Windsor and its royal castle is almost a must for any first time visitor to London.

Understand

There are several different definitions of the county of Berkshire. This article adopts that of the current ceremonial county of Berkshire, which has the same boundaries as the administrative county had until it was abolished in 1998. The alternative traditional county definition includes places (such as Abingdon, Wallingford and Wantage) that are now more strongly associated with Oxfordshire and does not include one of Berkshire's main towns (Slough).
