There is an airport about 10 km outside Blenheim, and a ferry from Wellington to Picton.

• The Wine Marlborough festival is held in February each year. Experience over 200 wines from around 40 wineries and gourmet food. It is NZ's longest running wine and food festival.

Marlborough's Wairau plains are a major New Zealand winegrowing region and the home of a number of major wineries. Vineyard tours are a significant attraction. There is a wine map here.

The main varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
