Balestrand is a small charming village on the edge of the Sognefjord in Norway.

Get in
Visitors may arrive by the expressboat from either Flam or Bergen. The ferry terminus is in the centre of Balestrand and no more than 10 minutes from any hotel
The major road into Balestrand is the Route 55 across the Sognefjell mountain area between Luster and Lom. It is the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe (highest point 1430 meters), and it has been awarded the status of National Tourist Route because of the spectacular and wild mountain scenery it passes through
Get around
Balestrand is small so it takes no longer than 15-20 minutes to walk from one side to another
See
There is a nature tail up the hill from Balestrand and numerous other walks with plenty of great views of the fjord.
- St Olavs Church Also known as the English church (free, open daily).
- Aquarium A small aquarium with examples of sealife found in the fjord. There are no English descriptions in the exhibit but they do have an English brochure at the front desk.

- Glacier Excursions You can see a glacier and the Norwegian Glacier Museum on a half-day or full-day excursion.
