Copán was once at the center of Mayan civilization. The ruins are considered the most detailed mayan ruins ever discovered. The present ruins are quite substantial and a major tourist attraction in western Honduras.

Get in
There are shuttles (small busses) and there is a bus line from antigua in guatemala
Get around
the place is not that big so you can do it on foot, you could do horse riding close by.
Mini Cabs will take you anywhere in town for a small fee.
See
the ruins and the countryside, local life is quite calm
Do
next to visiting the ruins you might take some spanish classes, there are 2 schools that are good
Buy
there is a local market in the city center
Eat
Most places offer a Plato Tipico de Honduras. This includes beef strips (or sometimes chicken), beans, fried plantains, tortillas, cabbage and sour cream. Be advised that this is what you will get if you ask for a "menu," which has a different meaning in spanish.

The town of Copan Ruinas has all types of accomodations for all prices ranges. Most places are located within a block of Parque Central.
Budget
- ViaVia Hostel - run by Belgians that offers great sleeping accomodations for backpackers at a very reasonable price. They have very good food.
Mid-Range
- Hotel Marina Copan - [1]. Located in the heart of Copan Ruinas (a small colonial town, where the mayan ruins are), this hotel is known for its history, nice arquitecture and good services. It has over 60 rooms, and the ambience of the town where it is located makes a perfect and relaxing vacation.
- Hotel Plaza Copan - (504)651-4070 or -4071 or -4072. Located on the square next to the church, this hotel surrounds a pool/ bar/ atrium area. 20 rooms with private bath, TV and A/C. Single/ Double $50US/ $60US
