Kastellet is the old citadel in Copenhagen.
The construction of Kastellet started in 1626. It is now used by the military intelligence.

You have to enter by foot or bicycle from the north or the south gate.

- The Little Mermaid Statue, perhaps Copenhagen's best-known symbol, is on the northern end of the waterfront.
- Kastellet (Frederikshavn Citadel) is a superbly preserved and restored star-shaped citadel. First built in 1626 as St. Anne's Bulwark and completed in 1664, it was the stronghold at the northern end of the East Rampart, which arced through the city and remains in the form of the many parks extending down to Tivoli. The Citadel now houses the Danish Defence Intelligence Service.
- The Danish Resistance Museum (Frihedsmuseet) [1] is just outside Kastellet, which was occupied by German forces from 1940 to 1945.

- Go for a walk on the walls around Kastellet. Before sunset the night before Store bededag many people from Copenhagen go for a walk on the walls. After the walk they eat Hveder (a kind of buns that are made only once a year) toasted with butter.
