Cottbus is a small city and due to high unemployment the city has to suffer from the brain drain to more prosperus German cities. The proximity to Berlin allows a lot of people to commute between the cities.

Either via the Autobahn from Berlin or Dresden. There is an hourly train from Berlin to Cottbus.
