By plane
The main transport hub is Surabaya, well connected with domestic flights (and a few international ones).
By train
Major towns in the province, Surabaya and Malang are connected to Jakarta by various classes of accommodations suiting most budgets. However, the relatively popular tourist attractions of Mt. Bromo and Pasir Putih beach are not rail-connected. It is possible, though, to travel to Bali by train from Surabaya and Malang, by virtue of a connecting ferry and bus service.
By bus
Frequent buses travel across Java and is the most reliable method to travel. All of these can be boarded at bus terminals in any major city and town.

Bromo and Mt. Semeru are one of the main attractions in East Java. Other volcanic craters include Mt. Kelud near Kediri and Kawah Ijen (Ijen Plateau) near Bondowoso.
