Hillsborough (Grenada) Travel Guide
From Wikitravel
Hillsborough on Carriacou is considered the "main town" on this island. There are two other population centers -- Windward, on the northeast coast, which is a boat-building spot, and Tyrell Bay, on the southwest coast, where private sailors congregate.
Hillsborough has several general stores, the only gas station on the island of Carriacou, several restaurants, numerous guest houses, and many rum shacks and many churches. It has the main pier for the island, and a beach extending west and east that is pretty pleasant. There are 3 banks, the post office, customs agent, and a couple of lawyers' offices, as well as the GrenTel (Grenada Telephone system) office, should you need to call home. There is also a rather nice but tiny museum with Arawak and Carib artifacts, maps, post cards, and arts.
You can walk around Hillsborough in less than an hour.
If you should want to visit Carriacou, you should go on line, search for guest houses, and be prepared for somewhat primitive (as in "not Lux") conditions, friendly locals, extremely cheap rates, and uncrowded venues. No tennis, shopping, gambling, golf, movies, and so on. On the other hand, deserted beautiful beaches, simple and cheap cuisine, accommodating locals, and no crime.... have some appeal.
