Kurdish is the languange of the Kurds, an ethnic group in the region where Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and Syria meet (sometimes controversially proposed as the location for an independent Kurdish state). The language is part of the Iranian family of Indo-european languages. Due to the fact that they live in countries where Kurdish is not the majority or official language, most Kurds are bilingual.
