Understand

The province is an ancient city which was founded in the reign of King Pra-Ruang during the time Sukhothai was the Capital. Inscriptions have been found calling the city Muang Pra Bang, as the historical record written by Luang Prasert_uksornnithi as well as it appears in the inscription, third stone.

While Ayutthaya was the capital of the kingdom, King Praborom-rajatiraj I (Khun-luang Pra-Ngua) annexed the colonial cities, Muang Kampangphet, Muang Tak and Muang Pra Bang to form a region called "Nakhon Pung Ka".

Presumably, the word so called "Pak Nam Ploh" was probably called after the place name of the merging tributaries, Ping and Nan rivers, the local people used to call it "Pak Nam Ploh" later on it has been distorted to be heard as Pak Nam Poh and we are familiar with this name at present. Pak Nam Poh is the headwater of the Chao Phraya river which flows across the central area of Thailand into the Gulf of Thailand, the river itself is important factor in the economy of the country.
