Get in
By car
Pembroke is accessible by 4 exits off Highway 17, also known as the Trans-Canada Highway. Along this highway, it is 160km (100 mi) west of Ottawa and 215km (135 mi) east of North Bay. It is also about 400km (255 mi) northeast of Toronto.
By bus
There is a Greyhound Bus station downtown, located in the rear of Moncion's Grocers on Pembroke St., with 3 buses daily to Ottawa and 1 to Toronto.
Get around
Taxis are common and cheaper than big cities for moving around within the city and to nearby towns. Calling a taxi service - by using a phone book or asking a store owner to do so - will save time over trying to hail one. There is a public transit bus that runs in a loop throughout the city from morning through early evening.
Pembroke is small enough that almost everything is within a comfortable walking distance, and cycling as well.

- Kiwanis Waterfront Trail is a 1.5km trail which follows the waterfront from the city's marina to Riverside Park. Includes outdoor theatre, historic "pointer boat" monument, outdoor chapel and lookout points.
- Algonquin Provincial Park is just west of Pembroke and offers a variety of interior camping, canoeing and hiking.
- Some of the world's best whitewater rafting and kayaking is available east of Pembroke, near the village of Beachburg, by several different companies. A variety of packages are available - inquire within the city.
Eat
Mostly chain restaurants. Groceries are available cheapest at discount groceries at the malls at either end of town, or less cheap at Moncion's downtown. For a little taste of authentic Pembroke cuisine try the deep-fried mars bars from Colbourne's chip truck, located on Christie street.
Drink
The three bars most popular with locals are located near City Hall on Pembroke St.

Hotels and motels
Usually, no reservations are necessary, except possibly during major hockey tournaments (weekends in November and early December). There are also several B&Bs on the outskirts of town.

Algonquin Portage Ltd. is located outside of Pembroke towards Algonquin Park (735-1795). $25/night, linens not included. Breakfast for $7. Camping for $4/night. Offers pickup and dropoff at the Pembroke Greyhound station.
Camping
Tent or trailer camping is available from May 24 long weekend through Canadian Thanksgiving at Riverside Park, on Pembroke St. in the west end. Includes washrooms and showers, playground, beach and tourist information centre. $27.82/night (tax included) for serviced sites, $21.40/night for non. Lower rates for stays of longer than 2 weeks. There are also three provincial parks with campsites a half-hour's drive away: Algonquin, Bonnechere and Driftwood.
