Get In

By boat

There are ferries to Messina from the west pier at the end of Via Florio about once an hour (every 2-3 hours on Su)

By train

The trains stop both at Lido (harbour) and the main harbour in the south end of town. The main station has a small tourist office, that will give you a very good map of the town.

Get around

Understand

Lungomare is the beautiful promenade along the beach separated by the inland Corso Vittorie by a small strip of botanical garden of palm trees. A few blocks inland (east) Corso Guiseppe Garibaldi is the main artery of Reggio.

Reggio is as dead in the daytime as a Segio Leone movie. From 8 to 9pm Corso Garibaldi is full of people. After that everyone is at Longomare.

  • Lido Communale For €1 you get a daypass to this northern beach, a changeroom, use of showers etc.

Buy

  • Bergamotto licquor. Similar to Limoncello.

Eat

  • Gordon Bleu, Corso Garibaldi 203, Tel: +39 0965 332447. Very posh with waiters in black tie and white tuxedo, paper hats on draught beer etc. It is a glorified fastfood joint selling ice cream, crêpes, pizza slices, and other dished that are heated after you make your choice. But the E16 tourist menu is good and they have one thing on all other restaurants in town. The location of their wagon/tent on Corso Garibaldi.
  • La Dolce Vita, Viale G. Zerbi (Next to Museo Strumento Ncionale), Tel: +39 0965 895173. Makes excellent icecream. You can eat them on the terrace.

Drink

  • Pepy's' beach [1]], Lungomare, Tel: +39 320 2147980. Great place to have a quiet beer, limoncello, bergamotto, or cocktail while watching the lights on Sicily and listening to the waves hitting the rocky beach.

Sleep

  • Albergo Noel, Tel: +39 0965 890965. Not the most charming hotel with big fluorescent lights, fake wood paneling, and bad plumbing. But clean and run by a very friendly couple. €40 for a double with a bathroom and breakfast.
