Get in

Buses leave from Bondi Junction, which is reachable via train (CityRail). The 380 bus goes to Bondi Beach (as do the 381, 382 and L82 buses) and takes 10 or 15 minutes. The buses can also be caught directly from the city, but catching a train and then a bus is faster.

Driving is also an option, though parking is expensive with parking meters (ranging from half an hour to four hours) on street and the next to beach parking being expensive too. If you don't mind walking the meters disappear about a ten minute walk from the beach area, but finding a spot can be difficult.

See

  • The beaches of course.
  • Festival of the Winds - One Sunday in September each year a kite festival is held on the beach. Lots of fancy kites to see and lots of activities for kids. The timing of this event may help you determine the windy season for this area.

Do

  • Swim at one of the area's many beaches. The beach is patrolled and safe if you stay between the flags.
  • Surfing at the beaches is popular too, and there are a few surf schools offering lessons.
  • Bondi to Bronte coastal walk, about 2.5km long (one way) and has a lot of steps. You can get a bus from Bronte Beach back to Bondi Junction. Bronte Beach has better picnic facilities than Bondi Beach and is usually less crowded. You can continue the walk from Bronte Beach to Waverley Cemetery - about 1.5km (one way) - the cemetery is on the cliff top looking over the ocean and is very pretty. Though it is a cemetery which some people may not see as a great tourist destination, though the view is spectacular and it's quiet and not crowded.

Buy

There is a market in the Primary School, which is at the northern end of the main shops area opposite the Beach, every Sunday.

There are a lot of clothing shops and a few touristy shops selling tacky touristy trinkets.

Eat

You can't walk ten steps without passing a cafe or restaurant.

  • Sundeck CafĂ©, 1 Notts Ave, (perched above the southern end of Bondi Beach), 9130-3120, [1]. Possibly the best views in Bondi , the food is simple but tasty and the coffee reasonable; burgers, focaccias, pizza and other light meals. Is attached to a bar so gets noisy on weekends, an early lunch avoids the drunken noise makers. Part of a the Bondi Icebergs Club, so ID showing you don't live within a few kilometers (or membership if you do) is required for entry. $10-$15.
