Autobiography
I hail from the great City of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States of America. I'm 21 years old and have no idea, where exactly I'll go to college, yet. I've been contributing to Wikitravel officially since 08:14, 11 March 2005. I go by the user name Sapphire, because I'm a fan of the color Sapphire, which is a shade of blue. This particular color is an amazingly beautiful blue and is the sum of the world's beauty. Additionally, the sapphire gem is my birth stone. If you're from the UK and wondering why my name sounds familar it's because I'm a bit of a celebrity on the opposite side of the pond. To brush up on your celebrity knowledge please read this Guardian newspaper story.
I lived in Munich, Germany between June - November 2004, departed Berlin a day after the 15th anniversary of the "Fall of the Wall," for Warsaw, Poland, where I blew a ton of money living like a king. My favorite painting is Street in Venice [1] by John Singer Sargent.
Currently, I am writing a book about places that I've never been and will probably never travel to. Why ruin the romantic illusions I create by visiting a city overrun with prostitutes, more theives than residents, and unbearable humidity? Actually, throw in a stolen atlas and beautiful brunette who smokes cigars and that's the storyline. The settings (There will be three locations) are important - exotic, as far away from civilization as humanly possible, but not so isolated that an American, or Briton couldn't get there. I feel drawn to Southeast Asia (China) and possibly a former Soviet republic. My masterpeice should be complete within four years. If, you've ever heard of a place like the above described setting please tell me about it.

Funniest thing I've ever read: - Shouldn't we tone down "kindergarteners on crack stringing together letters plucked at random out of alphabet soup" within the Talk section. I mean, this seems like its a little heavy of an opinion... Is it that difficult? -- Ilkirk 10:33, 1 April 2006 (EST)

Another favorite quote: - “What impresses me the most is that I was an accountable representative of a system under which people suffered, also under which repression was aimed at individuals, who were persecuted because of their oppositional stance. Their position was the right one. My position was the wrong one. We were not capable of democracy, but rather tried in the absence of better arguments to get rid of the other opinion with direct violence.” - Günter Schabowski, Former propaganda minister of the GDR. |
