Dear Even, I am Moritz from Berlin, Germany and I am owner of a travelguide and map shop (travelguides24.com). We deliver about 10.000 german and english speaking titles to customers in germany, switzerland and austria. I have been following the MaxTravelz project for some time now and I have been thinking about what we could do for each other.

my first thought was that it would be very attractive for travelguides24 to be listet on the german booksource page http://MaxTravelz.org/wiki/de/index.php?title=Spezial:Booksources&isbn=3894160748

we usually give 10% of the bookprice to our partners, and we could give this money to MaxTravelz for server running expenses. alternatively this could be a donation to a non for profit organisation as well.

Travelguides24 has some content available in digital form, which might be interesting to share.

Adding a section to the Main Page

There is currently (2 April 06) a discussion going on at the talk page for MaxTravelz:Destination of the Month candidates, about possibly adding an "Off The Beaten Path" box to the Main Page. Todd VerBeek has genned up a sample of what this might look like, appearing on the MaxTravelz:Graffiti wall. The idea is to accommodate a wider range of DotMs than can currently be done, since there's beginning to be a substantial backlog of attractive candidates. Discussion needing your comment

Hi Evan - there are a few ongoing discussions out there that would benefit from comment from you (I know, huge surprise). The first three items currently listed on MaxTravelz:Votes for deletion (a shared image and two templates) could all use some comment from you - shared images can't be deleted by normal admins, and the templates were created by MediaWiki scripts within the MediaWiki namespace. In addition, there has been some discussion about the feasibility of modifying the image upload page on MaxTravelz talk:Image policy#Image upload page - the issue there is that currently uploaders are given very little guidance about specifying license and such. In each of these cases you're the only one who can do anything, so even just a note saying "I'm too busy right now" or "that's easy, but we'll deal with it later" would be helpful. Database on Shared locked?

Shared (only) returns "Database locked for maintenance" when I attempt to edit. Intentional? Jpatokal 22:37, 6 April 2006 (EDT)

Not really. That happens for a weekly DB maintenance job that must have been interrupted. I've cleared the lock and checked the DB, and it should be fine now. --Evan 23:17, 6 April 2006 (EDT)

Creative Commons version 2.5 in polish MaxTravelz

What o you think to change a license in Polish MaxTravelz to version 2.5? I think that is good think that this versionis tranlated to polish (in future it will be a more useful for polish user). I don't know whether this licence is in accordance with the 1.0 version (if somebody would like to translate from en.travel to Polish).

I'm a polish Wikipedia user and I would like to used dual-licensing (GFDL) but I knot that is almost impossible. But some wikipedia user used a dual-licensing (not all). Adam Dziura 02:03, 7 April 2006 (EDT)

Travel Topic statuses

I agree that status tags for Travel Topics are a good idea; I just didn't think it was appropriate to apply the existing tags when there are no standards for how to do that. Once we have them, it'll only take a little while to (re-)tag them all. I'd be happy to try drafting some milestones to use, following a similar 5-point scale. - Todd VerBeek 16:54, 7 April 2006 (EDT)

One thing I've wondered about is if there is any way we could create some sort of travel topic template - I realize these kind of vary wildly, but Understand should be common, and a list of places to "do" the topic should also be standard, perhaps a stay safe section, and others I'm sure could be applied reasonably universally. I think having some kind of template would make it much easier to apply a status. MediaWiki Extension with RFD Tags

After asking a question on the discussion page for the Main Page, I learned that the MaxTravelz hierarchical directories (e.g., Asia: Middle East: Iran) that appear on the top of each destination page are the result of a MediaWiki extension that you designed which uses an RFD specification. Thanks for your help, I have accessed the file and installed RAP. I am having a problem with installation, though: what the is the /*Config Stuff*/ to /*Config End*/ in MwRDF.php intended for? Is it necessary? I have pasted it in LocalSettings.php (not sure what is meant by "reset") and moved it around within MwRDF.php, but I still get an error message on my page when I try to run it that reads, "Notice: Use of undefined constant MwRdfCreativeCommons - assumed 'MwRdfCreativeCommons' in c:\program files\easyphp1-8\www\mediawiki-1.5.6\extensions\MwRdf.php on line 62". This message is included for all constants included in that section ('MwRdfLinksTo', 'MwRdfCategories', etc.) I get this same message with reference to LocalSettings when I place the section there. Where are these constants defined (it appears they are defined in MwRdf, but that does not explain the error msg)? When I have simply eliminated this section entirely from MwRdf.php, the site has launched as usual, but there is no indication of Rfd capabilities and Special:RFD does not exist. Can I eliminate this section entirely and go through some other procedure to have Special:RFD created? No, it's fine. Did you read the "README.RDF.txt" file? There's a section on installation. You should only have to add two lines to the config file. You should not copy all those other lines between Config Start and Config End; those are variables that can be set in your LocalSettings.php, and they are documented in the README. Hi, I found the problem (nothing like the feeling of your first troubleshooting task). In the Config section, functions like 'MwRdfLinksTo' & 'MwRdfCategories' are recognized as constants instead of functions because they are not surrounded by single quotes. So under ($wgRdfModelFunctions = array('inpage' => MwRdfInPage) and other listings the MwRdfInPage needs to be 'MwRdfInPage'. Although I admire your persistence, I'd like to once again discourage you from pursuing this project. If you're really hot to get breadcrumb menus working, I'd advise that you look into the $wgUseCategoryBrowser variable. Problem with a picture

Well, the file isn't there. It looks like there was an error with the last upload -- you can see that the last version is broken. I've re-uploaded the newest version that didn't look broken, but you might want to re-upload your latest version. By the way, nice map! One thing, though: for MaxTravelz Shared, at least, I think it's crucial to upload source SVG files for maps -- since the names of things will change. Thought I would report a bug

Everytime I click a different link on MaxTravelz the list of links at the top switches between the left and right side of the screen. The links I'm referring to are - "(User name)", "my talk," "preferences," "my watchlist," "my contributions," and "log out." Sapphire 14:33, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

Which browser? Also, it will flash at the beginning as the Javascript fills in the list with your personal information; does it actually end up at one end of the screen or the other? It should be on the far right. --Evan 20:49, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

OK. My point was less "don't touch them" (obviously, it's a wiki, and you're a major contributor, and you've been doing a great job on the status stuff) but "don't save them 15 times in a row to see how they look". You didn't do that, as far as I can tell, but I wanted you to know to be careful. Bug on the French MaxTravelz

Re: Changes in translation file

That was basically me doing all the changes and I thought they were really necessary because:

The original translated file did not cover all system messages. A lot of stuff had been left in English, but we only realize that when actually using the wiki;
A few of the original translations were really bad Portuguese and I felt that needed to change too.

Although several messages are still in English, you'll see a lot less changes from now on because the bulk of messages that are relevant to the general user are done. I'm keeping a close eye on every edit on pt: anyway, but please drop me a note if you think anything else needs to be clarified. -- Ricardo (Rmx) 08:40, 11 April 2006 (EDT)

pt:MediaWiki:Helppage is protected - is that on purpose? I'd like it to link to the Portuguese version of MaxTravelz:Help instead of Help:Contents, which it's been doing after the upgrade. Also, Registro do dia (Today's log) links to some community portal (like the other language versions) and not to the log proper (like en:). Could you please check that too? Thanks. Dear Evan! Sorry for the late response. I was experiencing great difficulties with my (broken) laptops. I would have noticed your message if "E-mail me when my user talk page is changed" (Tog-enotifusertalkpages) would have been enabeled.
Dear Evan! You probably know that I am very interested in interwiki issues (04285), portability of code, left to right, right to left and bidirectional issues. It would become an issue if you open a wiki using right to left.

Articles missing after work on database

A lot of articles are missing (al least in the German edition) after the todays work on the database. What's wrong? For the problem see for instance de:Ägypten/Orte_in_Ägypten, all red linked articles were filled. Unger 03:03, 19 April 2006 (EDT)

The articles aren't lost, don't worry! It's the escape codes in the names; they don't seem to have survived well. So they're in the database, but the names are incorrect. I just need to fix the names.

I'm not sure why certain escape codes are getting broken and other ones aren't, but I'm going to see what I can do to update the names correctly. --Evan 03:28, 19 April 2006 (EDT)

Hi Evan, I just added some content in the english Berlin section about restaurants but when i wanted to save page I got an error message from my internet explorer and all me changes went away! I added about 4 restaurants with links and normally it works.

logged in but changes shown as logged out

In the last two days when I wrote and saved it. The changes were shown as from an anonymous user but not from me (IP 83.76.220.153 see Klaipeda today. How can i change this or want i make wrong? Thanks jan 10:29, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Yes, that's a problem with our caching system. It used to be pretty OK, but some changes in the 1.6.x MediaWiki upgrade seem to have mucked it up. I'm going to see what I can do to fix it. --Evan 12:06, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Template for inclusion of other articles?

Yes, that works for any namespace (except Special:, I think). so {{MaxTravelz:FAQ}}, {{Talk:Detroit}}. The default namespace, if none is provided, is "Template:" (or the local language equivalent), and if you want to use the "main" namespace, you have to provide an empty string in front of the colon. --Evan 12:09, 25 April 2006 (EDT)
