Bangkok Drink and Prostitution?

Is there some reason you wish to emphasize areas of prostitution in the drink section for Bangkok? This is not appropriate and is insulting. Drink does not mean prostitutes and the appropriate bars in this section need to be changed to the places that people actually go to.

I've yet to find a first-time visitor to Bangkok who wasn't interested in checking out a go-go bar; it really is entirely possible to go in, have a beer, and leave. But further discussion on Talk:Bangkok, please. Jpatokal 06:16, 1 Feb 2006 (EST)

Barnstar

So, thinking about the discussion on MaxTravelz talk:star articles, I realized that I've never publicly thanked you for the incredible job you do with MaxTravelz. Your contributions worldwide, your participation in the community, and your leadership have been instrumental in making this project a success.

I just wanted to give you this Barnstar to say thanks for everything you've done. --Evan 14:31, 1 Jan 2006 (EST)

Chinese names capitalization

Thanks for correcting my "NanDaJie" -> "Nandajie" in the Xi'an article. I just got used to the Taiwanese system. R u familiar with Chinese language?

Only slightly, and most of that thanks to studying Japanese... Jpatokal 22:34, 7 Jan 2006 (EST)

Request

I've just uploaded two images: 'Swansea Bay and University' and 'Mumbles Head and Swansea Bay'. However, I cannot get them to download onto the Swansea article. The former should be at the top, next to 'Understand' section, while the former should be located nett to the 'See' - Parks and scenic areas section. May I request your kind help, sir. Thanks. Gangwon - Copyright issues

Please see Talk:Gangwon and User talk:Okay95 to give an opinion on a copyright permission from the Gangwon Provincial Government. -- Huttite 07:12, 20 Jan 2006 (EST)

Template:ISBN

You did some work on Template:ISBN before you redirected it to the special page for book sources. Why? Can the special page be used in a link the way the template could? If so, how? --Ravikiran 11:57, 22 Jan 2006 (EST)

That works. Thanks. --Ravikiran 02:55, 23 Jan 2006 (EST)

Sepang official website

The website for Sepang District Council is only a one page site and appears to be mostly in Mayla, I guess. That is the reason I removed it and didn't move it to the top. My thoughts were it is not worth the click and we should wait till something of use is on the site. -- Xltel 13:31, 1 Feb 2006 (EST)

Dogo Onsen Advice

I'm thinking of finally experiencing Dogo Onsen. Would you recommend going at around noon on a Friday in Autumn? - JRHorse 23:55, 10 Feb 2006 (EST)

Why not? Doesn't really matter when you go, it's a big building and the cheap baths are all buried in the basement. The whole place isn't worth more than a day max tho. Jpatokal 02:42, 12 Feb 2006 (EST)

Statscript needs updating

Apparently Special:Statistics now uses commas to separate digits, so this week's stats upload is wonky. -- Colin 19:22, 23 February 2006 (EST)

Statscript just uploaded stats... which were identical to last weeks. -- Colin 19:22, 2 March 2006 (EST)

Hi

How's things? I'm trying to hit as many people as possible with new messages to see if the darn indicator works. --Evan 21:54, 5 March 2006 (EST)

Don't mean to be nosey, but... did you read your messages by looking at the diffs? I think that might be the problem -- I don't think I'm clearing the image out in that case. --Evan 22:22, 5 March 2006 (EST)
Yes I did, and this time it cleared out the blinky ball. Joy! But could you also make the ball a part of the link to My talk? And would a blinky "new" be more informative? Jpatokal 22:34, 5 March 2006 (EST)
Making it a part of the link would be a good idea... If it had text in it, though, I'd have to make 10 different versions, one for each language. Another possibility would be to have a blinky red background to the "my talk" link... hmmm. --Evan 22:49, 5 March 2006 (EST)

Hot springs

Thanks for the contributions there. It is of course far better to have text about the springs, rather than just the list of relevant pages that I was assembling. However, I wanted to get something in place to justify keeping the page. I'm looking forward to similar additions. What do you know about European springs? -- Bill-on-the-Hill 08:55, 17 March 2006 (EST)

DOTM

I was hoping you would volunteer for the DOTM-pushing chore so I could go to sleep. -- Colin 04:22, 1 April 2006 (EST)

Very nice. -- Colin 04:29, 1 April 2006 (EST)
I must admit, my mind wasn't quite warped enough to think of that. :-) -- Bill-on-the-Hill 09:50, 1 April 2006 (EST)

Template borders

Apologies if the border changes were controversial - I never noticed the difference until seeing them all together on the MaxTravelz:Template index page, and after a quick perusal of several pages assumed that the difference was likely just something that had gone overlooked. I'm used to working at companies where inconsistencies are generally something that are likely to cause some manager to freak out, and need to remember that on this site it's changes that are more likely to cause people to freak. Sorry for not discussing first. -- Ryan 04:51, 3 April 2006 (EDT)

Listing tags

I moved the discussion on listings to MaxTravelz talk:Listings. I'd like to experiment before making this "the" way to do listings. --Evan 13:37, 5 April 2006 (EDT)

Shared images

Since you seem to be the guru of MaxTravelz:shared I'm hoping you might be able to clarify the process for shared images. I've uploaded Image:01-denali-from-reflection-pond.jpg to shared, an image that was previously only uploaded to en:. After uploading I set the "isIn" to "Denali National Park" (should it have just been Alaska?) and then created "Category:Denali National Park". Once that was done I deleted the en: version of the image. Is that about right, or should I be doing things differently? -- Ryan 06:31, 7 April 2006 (EDT)

{{isIn|Brabant}}

I have a Q for you. Why is it when I placed this tag {{isIn|Brabant}} in Leuven it didn't list the continent or country this region and city is located in? Sapphire 11:56, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

I'm answering on your talk page, Sapphire. --Evan 12:01, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

Thanks

Thanks for your help with User:Shalom Alechem. I've been trying to make sure he is the owner of these images. If you consult his Wikimedia Commons account it seems some of the users there had to delete his images because of apparent copyvios. I felt like I was trying to do it by myself (ensuring that these images were compliant with the copyleft. Sapphire 13:06, 8 April 2006 (EDT)

StatScript

StatScript uploaded the same numbers as last week -- I hand-corrected the output. Html tables are broken in general on the wiki right now, so ignore the current presentation and just look at the diffs. -- Colin 21:17, 13 April 2006 (EDT)

Again. -- Colin 20:59, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Plants on Svalbard

"the only visible vegetation is a brownish green moss, the color of dead grass, that sprouts patchily up the mountainsides."

The wikipedia article mentions lots of plants. [] Jer ome 03:37, 14 April 2006 (EDT)

Most of which are rare and flower only briefly in spring, hence the "visible". As usual, feel free to plunge forward and write up more details! Jpatokal 04:06, 14 April 2006 (EDT)
Heh, maybe I will when I've been there. My friend is visiting in July -- I'll make her update it. Jer ome 14:13, 14 April 2006 (EDT)

Japanese issues

Hey, so, I did a database upgrade and messed up some articles and user names with non-Latin chars. Not all, but some. I'm trying to fix them right now, but it's going to be about an hour or so. Could you communicate this to ja: please? They and de: are the hardest hit. --Evan 04:01, 19 April 2006 (EDT)

Wall and Dome

Jpatokal,

By any chance have you already uploaded your image taken in Jerusalem title "JewishQ_WallAndDome.jpg"? Sapphire 23:38, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

You mean this? No, I haven't, but I think the one currently in Jerusalem gives a much better picture for the traveler and is better as a photo to boot. Jpatokal 23:44, 25 April 2006 (EDT)
I forgot about the one on Jerusalem. I'm just trying to find something that shows the prayers at the Wall and one that doesn't need a model release. Sapphire 23:48, 25 April 2006 (EDT)

Thanks for the honor

Thank you for the Barnstar... I'd give one to you in return for all of your help, but I see you already have one :)

P.S. I see you've stumbled upon my Japan '07 page... please feel free to add suggestions whenever you see fit. JRHorse 00:00, 26 April 2006 (EDT)

Dulling down in Tel-Aviv

Hi Jpatokal,

I'd just like to draw your attention to one of those dullifying events. A new user who seems to be an American with an Israel thing has been working on Israel.. not that that's bad at all. It's just that to me "The most orthadox town in the world" seems a more interesting place to visit than "a suburb, with a very large population of people who practice orthadox judaism."

Anyhow, I was going to welcome the guy/gal, and point this out, but I though it might be better to consult with one of those of us who know the area better. -- Mark 10:47, 27 April 2006 (EDT)

Upload text

Would you give an editorial looksee to MediaWiki:Uploadtext? --Evan 08:12, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

Raw stats

Hey, so, I'm still coming up empty on the magic words for pl:. One thing I wanted to ask: have you seen the raw statistics output? That might be easier to parse and seems to return the right data. --Evan 12:43, 29 April 2006 (EDT)

Image Missing

Hi - just wanted to mention the image entitled "Street market - Jln Petaling" on the Kuala Lumpur page is no longer showing. Wdominic 12:22, 1 May 2006

Hi. Got your message. It's weird. I don't see it on the KL page using my computer? Want me to email you a screen grab? Wdominic 12:22, 1 May 2006

Bulk uploads to shared

Hi, Jpatokal. A few weeks ago, Evan said that maybe you've been considering a mass upload of flags and maps to Shared. That would be very useful, especially for the newer language versions of MaxTravelz. If you're really planning that, please feel free to contact me if you think I could be of any help. Thanks, Ricardo (Rmx) 14:45, 2 May 2006 (EDT)
