Oneworld recently launched its first European airport lounge shortly after its worldwide lounge debut in Seoul. So, what can you expect from a visit to the lounge?
The Oneworld alliance recently launched its first fully branded European lounge in Amsterdam, providing a new space for travellers. Oneworld travelers at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport have been in a something of a lounge wilderness since Covid due to the former British Airways lounge not reopening. Now, both they and those with lounge passes will be back in comfort with the new Oneworld lounge being co-located with the new Aspire paid lounge.
The 473 square-metre Oneworld lounge offers a wide choice of seating in a spacious, bright, modern setting. It can accommodate 118 people and is situated 10 minutes or less away from the Alliance member airlines' departure gates, in the location of the previous British Airways lounge in the non-Schengen area of the airport. Access will be for Oneworld Emerald and Sapphire members and those in business and first class on Oneworld airlines. There is no separate first-class lounge and the lounge is only available to those departing on flights to non-Schengen destinations.
On entering, travelers will notice the bright decor synonymous with oneworld's "Fly bright" tagline. The lounge has valuable features for those traveling for work or connecting to and from long-haul flights. If you want to work, there are a couple of individual booths perfect for a video or audio call in privacy, a co-working table and some work booths. USB and power points are available at almost every seat as well to end phone battery anxiety.
For those wanting to refresh themselves between flights, there is a snooze zone with comfortable chairs positioned facing a plain wall with lighting that changes to reflect the time of day. There are also shower rooms which are particularly important for travelers facing a long journey with everything necessary to emerge feeling ready to take on your next flight.
The food selection could not be called fine dining, but you won't go hungry. In addition to the ubiquitous salad bar with cold meats and cheese, there are hot snacks such as quiche and a build-your-own soup station. Of course, it wouldn't be a Dutch airport lounge without some delicious mini stroopwafels with their sticky caramel goodness. For breakfast, pastries and a choice of cereal are also available.
For those who would rather have some liquid refreshment, there is a lovely central bar known as the Carousel bar, which has cocktails and speciality coffee. Champagne and a selection of wines are available alongside beer and spirits, plus their signature blue-coloured cocktail. Non-drinkers are included with alcohol-free beer and more

easyJet, Europe’s leading airline, celebrated the opening of its new base at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport, a step that further strengthens its presence in Spain, where it now has 4 bases. The first flight operated by Alicante based aircraft and crew took off on Sunday 31 March at 6.00 am to Glasgow with Captain Daniel Ankerso in command. The airline has allocated three aircraft of the A320 family at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández airport, generating around 100 direct jobs for pilots and crew. The opening of this new seasonal base, which will be operational from March to October, consolidates easyJet’s position in Spain, with 19 aircraft based in the country and around 900 people employed on local contracts.
In March, United Airlines announced that United MileagePlus members could begin pooling their hard-earned miles with friends and family to reach their travel goals sooner. This is an ideal situation for those with kids — there is no age limit on who can earn MileagePlus miles — and those who are short on miles for an award flight and want to cut the cost of their trip.

Even as Dutch entrepreneur Alex Mulder found success as part of a diversified investment firm, he always kept the idea of giving back. And so, when he and his colleagues at the parent company of the hospitality upstart Pillows Hotels saw that a historic property in his childhood neighborhood on the east side of Amsterdam was for sale—one with a hotel permit already attached to it—he went for the opportunity.
In October 2021, I spent 30 hours on an Amtrak train traveling from Miami to NYC. Since it was an overnight trip, I booked a bedroom accommodation for $1,000.
Last year, my husband and I splurged on round-trip first-class tickets on Japan Airlines from San Francisco to Tokyo for $13,474 each. We reserved them in February for an October flight through American Express Travel. On the same day, I also bought business class tickets for a couple who was traveling with us at $8,429 apiece. In September, Amex notified me that we had been downgraded to business class for the return flight. JAL’s conditions state that we would receive “the difference between the normal fare amount of original class of service and for the normal fare of lower class of service.” To me that means that since the difference between our first class seats and our friends’ business seats was $5,045 each, we should be refunded about half of that — around $2,522 per person — for the second leg. But we got only $941 each. I contested this with Amex Travel, but they rejected our claim. Can you help?
The new routes will be operated by Airbus A220-300 aircraft.
